Our 3rd Grade Target River Kids, along with their teachers, Ms. Neal and Mrs. Walker, were honored on April 23 at Peachtree Park for their involvement in Georgia’s Rivers Alive program! As in past years, the students, teachers, and parents participated in two organized cleanups for Rivers Alive, the largest volunteer clean-up program in the state. Last year at the Rivers Alive ceremony Tritt’s River Kids program won the Adopt-A-Stream award, and this year they were proud to receive the Georgia School Award. This effort included cleaning up the lake in Chimney Springs neighborhood in the fall of 2018, where on two different days they removed 14 bags of trash, weighing 65 pounds. Tennis balls were the most common item found, along with anything from discarded wrappers to fishing gear, and our most unique discovery…a very heavy, old and forgotten neighborhood sign! Kudos to our River Kids for making a difference by spreading awareness and practicing stewardship of our local waterways!
