Certified Library Learning Commons

We are so proud to announce that our Library Learning Commons has received official certification from the district! We are so proud of Mrs. Bates' and Mrs. Porter's dedication to create a space full of learning, engagement, and HEART.

The district presented us with this banner today and read the following:

On behalf of the Cobb County School District and the Library Media Education Department, I am proud to announce that Tritt Elementary School is a certified Library Learning Commons. With the leadership of Joanne Bates , the library media specialist, the support of the library media parapro, Kathy Porter , the guidance of the principal, Karen Carstens , and the collaborative efforts of the teachers and staff, Tritt has shown a vision and commitment to 21st century learning and future-ready education. Your dedication to the library media program in three areas - services, resources, and intentional spaces - has had a tremendous impact on the teaching and learning at Tritt , and will for years to come. Congratulations on your well-deserved, official certification as a Library Learning Commons.

Joanne Bates deserved an additional layer of recognition, as she is one of the creators of the Library Learning Commons certification program, the first one in the nation. Her acceptance into the 2018-2019 Teacher Leader Academy provided the framework for her to help develop Library Learning Commons Certification as a way to provide clarity to the transformation process and highlight the impact that high-functioning library media programs provide students and staff. Congrats, Joanne, and thank you for all the additional time and passion and energy you put into not only your own program, but programs that benefit all Cobb schools as well.
